How How To Get In Shape When Life Is Nuts
Since we moved into our Airstream 8 months ago, we’ve lived in over a dozen cities across 7 different states, and put over 12,000 miles on our trusty steed:
Our 2016 F250
If there’s been one constant this year, it’s been change.
Even this morning… As soon as I hit send on this email, we’re hitching up in Boise and heading south to Utah.
Can I be honest with you?
The past 8 months have been hard!
Great in so many ways, but undeniably hard.
Full-time “#vanllife” might look like all sunsets, hikes, and epic views on social media, but let’s get real…
Breakdowns, budgeting, decision fatigue, becoming a part-time meteorologist, and dealing with 2 dogs that don’t care about personal space…

The constant change can be a lot!
If you’re anything like us, having a routine and a general lack of chaos makes life and healthy living easier.
What? You’ve never gotten off track with your goals when life gets nuts?
Yet, with 2 months left in this calendar year of life on the road, Digital Barbell and our clients are thriving, our own health and fitness are in a great spot, and our trust in God is as strong as ever.
How so, when the ease of routine is non-existent?
We focus on the big rocks.
The things that really matter.
We ignore the fluff, and focus on the 20% of things that get us 80% of the results.
For the business, that means being ruthlessly consistent with 3 things:
1 - Showing up for our clients no matter what
Our average client retention is over 2.5 years, which is unheard of in online coaching.
It happens because we get our clients’ results, and they know we care.
2 - Publishing our Podcast every Thursday, no matter where we are
No matter what city we’re in, that episode goes out. Most podcasts don’t make it to episode 10.
This week is #456, because we practice the same consistency we preach.
If you don’t already listen to our Podcast, the YouTube, Spotify, and Apple links are at the bottom of this email.
3 - Sending you 3 valuable emails per week
It’s our way of showing up for you and sharing practical help, encouragement, and connection, no matter where we are.
Personal things…
Staying on track with our physical and mental health in the midst of constant change comes down to focusing on 4 main factors.
1 - Daily time with God
Each morning starts with the Bible, journaling, prayer, and gratitude. It’s how we anchor our mindset before the day begins.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33
2 - Making almost all of our own food
No, we don’t have a farm in the Airstream.
But we do choose home-cooked food most of the time, even on 400-mile drive days like today.
We’ll still enjoy the occasional burger, fries, and yes… waffle cone for life
Are you team cup, or team cone?
3 - Find a way to lift weights or resistance train every week
Some weeks we have access to a real gym, and some weeks we use the dumbbells and bands we carry in the truck.
Either way, we are going to maintain our hard-earned strength and muscle by getting a couple of workouts in, no matter what.

I share all of these things not to give you a template for your own life, but as a reminder that you’re in control of your results.
It takes effort, intention, and a “stick to itness” that’s hard when your routine gets out of whack.
But since change and a little bit of chaos seem to be inevitable for us all, let’s accept it for what it is.
A challenge to be met with action, not excuses.
These aren’t always easy, but they’re what keep us grounded no matter where the road leads.
Take a few minutes today to think about what matters to you.
What are your big rocks?
What are you ready, willing, and able to do daily to keep the ball rolling, or at least keep it from rolling back?
Focus on those, and let the rest go as needed.
Hope this helps.
Have a great day,
Jonathan
