Read This If You’re Trying To Get In Shape
After 4,000 miles and nearly 4 weeks away, Blakley backed the Airstream into our driveway this past Saturday.
If you’re new here… For a year, Blakley, me, and our two dogs lived, traveled, and ran Digital Barbell from the road in our RV.
At the beginning of this year, we bought a fixer-upper home and driveway-camped while we gave the house a total redo.
The inside of the house hadn’t been done for very long before we set off for North Dakota last month.
Walking back into the house was surreal. Truthfully, we’d kinda forgotten what it looked like!
The sheer amount of work we did ourselves to get it to where it is today is overwhelming.
We painted every inch of the walls and ceilings.
We laid every square foot of the flooring on our hands and knees.
I measured, cut, and nailed every foot of baseboard.
I sanded and sealed every pine board on our newly vaulted ceiling by hand.
I painted every single cabinet and piece of trim throughout the entire house by hand, and I still have the tennis elbow to prove it.
Looking at it all with fresh eyes, I thought to myself: “How on earth did we do all of this?”
How did we turn the ugliest house in the county into something we’re proud to call home?
I believe the answer is the same answer to the question of:
“How do I get in shape if I’m so far away from where I want to be?”
One imperfect day at a time.
Despite what it looks like on HGTV or Instagram, impressive transformations don’t happen all at once or in perfect circumstances.
With the house, we just painted one wall.
Then another.
We laid one piece of flooring.
Then another.
We cut one piece of trim.
Then another.
And some days, we didn’t do much at all.
But we kept moving forward, making plenty of mistakes along the way.
That’s how progress usually works.
You don’t need to completely overhaul your life, my friend.
You don’t need hardcore workouts, a perfect diet, or a perfect week.
You just need to do something today that makes tomorrow a little easier.
Then do it again.
And again.
Eventually, you look back and realize you’re standing somewhere you never thought you’d reach.
That’s how you get in shape.
Not by being perfect.
By being consistent enough for the small things to eventually become something big.
And if you’re ready to start building that version of yourself, that’s exactly what we help people do.
One imperfect day at a time.
Hope this helps,
Jonathan
