The Truth About Weight Loss During Menopause: What Actually Matters After 40
“If you want to get rich, sell women a weight loss solution.
If you want to get filthy rich, sell women nearing menopause a weight loss solution.”
I forget where I heard that quote, but it’s not far off.
And I’m also aware of the irony of writing this article.
I’ve never had a hot flash.
I’m not a woman.
But I’ve been married to the same one for almost 25 years, and I’ve coached many women through this frustrating stage of life.
One thing I’ve learned is this:
For many women, perimenopause and menopause can feel like your own body suddenly stopped playing by the agreed-upon rules.
The things that used to work no longer seem to work.
Your weight changes.
Your energy drops.
Your sleep becomes unpredictable.
Your mood feels different.
And all you want are answers... and maybe a little relief.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people ready to sell you those answers.
Why menopause weight loss feels so frustrating
The truth is that losing weight is often harder for women than men.
And when you add the hormonal changes that happen during perimenopause and menopause, it can become even more frustrating.
Even if a woman doesn’t gain a significant amount of weight, she may suddenly notice:
More fat accumulating around her stomach
Less energy throughout the day
More mood swings
Difficulty sleeping
Feeling like her body temperature has a mind of its own 🔥
These changes are real.
The frustration is real.
But unfortunately, that has created a massive opportunity for marketers.
The problem with most menopause weight loss advice
Marketers know how badly you want a solution.
So they prey on your frustration.
They tell you:
“Your cortisol is the problem.”
“Your blood sugar is the problem.”
“The type of exercise you’re doing is the problem.”
“Your metabolism is broken.”
And suddenly, instead of focusing on the fundamentals that actually drive results, you’re chasing the latest hormone hack, supplement, or complicated protocol.
A lot of it is designed to sell you something.
Hormones matter, but they don’t rewrite the rules
Before anyone misunderstands me, let me be clear:
The hormonal changes happening during perimenopause and menopause are real.
They can absolutely make fat loss feel harder.
But they don't rewrite the rules.
The fundamentals still matter:
Nutrition.
Strength training.
Daily activity.
Sleep.
Consistency.
Those are still the biggest drivers of your results.
You are still in control, even though the game has changed.
The answer isn’t doing more. It’s focusing on what matters.
One of the biggest reasons women struggle with fat loss after 40 is that they get overwhelmed.
They try to fix everything at once.
They change their diet every few weeks.
They add more cardio.
They buy another supplement.
They chase another promise.
But progress usually comes from doing fewer things better.
When you focus on less, you can do it better and stress less in the process.
And honestly?
That’s a lot more freeing than chasing the latest menopause shortcut.
Stop chasing hacks. Start building habits that work.
If you’re tired of being marketed to and you’re ready to make real progress, focus on the things that actually move the needle.
You don’t need another extreme diet.
You don’t need another miracle workout.
You need a simple plan that fits your life and a process you can actually stick with.
That’s exactly why we created our free 14-day challenge. (Details here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DbYxTBIkWfS/?img_index=1)
