Do These 2 Things If You Want To Get In Shape In 2026
We didn’t move into our Airstream because it felt perfectly planned, calm, or convenient.
We did it while life was busy, uncertain, and very much in progress.
And that decision taught me something important about health and fitness.
#1 – Stop Thinking and Waiting. Start Doing
When we somewhat impulsively bought our first little teardrop camper a few years ago, I had no way of knowing that I’d be coaching clients, writing emails, and recording podcasts while living full-time in a different RV today.
We never would have dreamed it was even possible if we hadn’t taken the first step and just started.
When we interview our clients for our YouTube channel, I always end with this question:
“What would you say to someone who is where you were before you started your fitness journey?”
Every single person has answered:
“Don’t wait for the perfect time. Just start.”
Just start.
I know, I know. You think you already know this one, but you also think you’re a special case.
You’ll start working out more once the kids are done with sports.
You’ll start getting up early to train when work isn’t so stressful.
You’ll cut back on sugar after Girl Scout Cookie season passes.
Once things are just right, you’ll finally do all the things.
You picture working out and eating healthy as an all-or-nothing proposition that requires everything to be just so before you go all in.
It’s either:
All salads, or all junk
Five workouts a week, or none
Zero carbs, or all the carbs
And the thought of having to start back with those extremes makes it easy to blame your sub-prime circumstances for not starting with a “something is better than nothing” mentality while life is still a bit nuts.
Again, you think you’re going to go hardcore and be perfect once the stars perfectly align.
But in reality…
One workout beats zero.
One more homemade meal is better than one more DoorDash or grab-and-go.
Even if you’re busy.
#2 – You Have to Stink at First
There are roughly three thousand things you need to know about setting up, breaking down, hooking up, backing up, towing, dumping, and just owning an RV.
Guess what?
We stunk at all of them when we started.
I’ve unhitched the trailer without chocking the wheels.
I’ve unhooked the sewer hose with an open black tank valve. #poopsie
I’ve taken 30 tries to back into a simple camping spot.
But with time and practice, now we stink less.
Setting up, breaking down, and handling all the day-to-day tasks of RV life come pretty easily to us now, which makes enjoying the benefits of camper life that much sweeter.
Here’s the deal…
Once you take on the identity of the healthiest version of yourself and start doing what that person does…
You’re going to stink.
After the excitement of doing something new wears off (usually the 3rd week of January 👀), you’re going to face resistance, low motivation, and plenty of frustration because you’re struggling to be perfect.
You’ll forget to make your lunch.
You’ll oversleep and miss your workout.
You won’t eat nearly enough protein.
You’ll eat too much over the weekend.
You’ll look down at the end of the day and realize you only took 3,000 steps.
You’ll stink.
Here’s some BREAKING NEWS: YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO STINK. IT’S PART OF THE PROCESS.
Anytime you start something new, there’s a learning curve.
Picture learning a new instrument, a foreign language, or starting a new job.
You have to practice to get better.
Fitness is no different.
The secret is to embrace the parts of the journey where you stink, and push through long enough for things to start getting easier.
My client Jason summed it up perfectly.
He said:
“I’ve really noticed a big difference in my workouts lately. Starting sometime in December, things seemed to click and became easier and more fun. I can see the improvements it’s making in my general well-being. The workouts feel more like I’m building on something rather than starting from scratch.”
We’ve got dozens of stories just like this too.
Here’s how to win in 2026:
Let go of perfectionist thinking.
Embrace the stink.
Persist.
It’s the only way.
I truly hope this helps you. Blakley and I want nothing more than for you to become the healthiest, happiest, fittest, and most fulfilled version of yourself—whether you hire us or not.
