Are Morning Workouts Better For Fat Loss

Are you a night owl who likes to hit the gym late, after everyone’s gone home, when you don’t have to wait in line to curl in the squat rack?

Or are you an early bird who’s never hit “snooze” in your life and drives to the gym in the dark with one eye barely open?

If you’re doing either, and doing it regularly, our hat’s off to you. You’re ahead of the game.

Let’s look at a couple of studies on whether there’s any fat loss advantage to morning vs. evening workouts.

A 2019 study looked at muscle changes and fat loss between morning and afternoon workouts. The differences were small, but the mice who hit the treadmill in the morning made slightly more progress than the night crew.

Another 2019 study compared AM vs. PM exercisers in humans. After 10 months, the AM group lost significantly more weight than the PM group.

So, does that mean morning workouts are better?

Well, not necessarily. Even the researchers weren’t sure why there was a difference. One theory is that higher morning cortisol levels might give a small edge in fat burning.

What? The media hype has you convinced that Cortisol is bad?

So… If you train in the evening, should you switch to mornings?

Nah, probably not.

But didn’t we just say there might be advantages?

Sure did.

But what really matters most is workout consistency.

What does that mean? A month isn’t consistency. Six months isn’t consistency. A year is getting there. Five years? That’s consistency!

And how do you get there?

You find what fits your life, what you actually enjoy, what’s realistic for you, and then you just don’t stop.

When you find that groove, that’s when the magic happens.

That’s when the stress of working out goes away.

Can you stay consistent with training in the morning? Keep it up.

Can you stay consistent with training in the evening? Keep it up.

I tricked you into reading this email with a “fat loss hack.”

Unless this is the first email you’ve read from us, you already know where we stand.

There is no hack. No magic pill. The magic pill is hard work and consistency.

If you’re a “no excuses” kind of person who wants better results, we’d love to work with you 1 on 1.
