Training to Win

As a coach, my heart truly belongs to coaching “beginners”. Whether that’s someone who’s never lifted weights or followed a structured workout program before, or someone who’s been out of the game for a while… I just love the beginner energy + newbie gains phase and helping people realize (often for the first time) that they are capable of so so much more than they once believed.

That being said, it’s also very fun to coach a client who is a seasoned pro and just loves to do WORK, makes zero excuses, executes on anything and everything you ask of them, and continues to impress you week after month after year!

That is how I would describe my client, Susan. Susan is a mom, a competitive CrossFitter, and all around bad a$$, not to mention a super strong woman (both mentally and physically).

She’s been training with me for a few years post-babies and knee surgery to come back stronger than ever.

This summer, she decided to take on training for a marathon (alongside raising kids, working a full-time job, and moving to a new city). Needless to say, she took the challenge on extremely well!

In the beginning, we mostly trained using the Digital Barbell Method 4 days per week (combining strength training, body building, and CrossFit style conditioning).

As the race neared, we pulled out 2 days of strength training and swapped them for 2 days of running (one short to moderate, one long run day). We continued this method leading all the way up to the marathon, adding more and more distance to her runs.

This past Sunday was the big day, and I couldn’t be prouder of Susan. Not only did she finish the Marathon, she finished the race with an average pace of less than 10 minutes per mile.

What an accomplishment!

How did she do it? She showed up… day after day after day.

So if you know Susan, give her a high-five 🖐️

And if you don’t know her personally, I hope a bit of her drive &determination rubs off through this email.

We (you and I… all of us) are capable of so much. Don’t settle or limit yourself.

Go for it… whatever it may be for you.

And surprise yourself on the other side (of it).

321, Let’s GO!
