Why Does Your Weight Fluctuate From Day To Day?
A Story About Weight Fluctuations…
She caught him red-handed this morning.
Before he even had a chance to explain himself she cut him off.
Trying to lure her into a lie and make her question her efforts…. But she knew better.
Things had actually been going really well lately.
She was making really good choices and staying consistent.
She was happy.
But yesterday was a mess. A real dumpster fire.
The dog kept her up half the night, and she barely made it to work on time.
In the hub-bub to get out the door that morning, she forgot her water bottle and her lunch.
She ended up grabbing a 5-Dollar Foot Long which was certainly more food than her homemade lunch that was still at home.
Work was extra stressful that day and there was an accident on the interstate on the way home that added 30 minutes that she didn’t have.
Like I said, an all-around dumpster fire of a day.
The evening was pretty low-key. She kept dinner light to make up for the big lunch.
But it was her daughter’s 10th birthday so she ended the night with a small piece of cake and a scoop of ice cream right before bed.
The stage was set for the big lie.
Before she stepped on the scale this morning she took stock of the day before and she knew what to expect.
She slept terribly the night before because of the darn dog.
She forgot her water bottle and was likely more dehydrated than normal.
She had those extra carbs from that 12” sandwich which increases water retention.
She ate a carb-heavy dessert right before bed that was probably still digesting.
She had an extra stressful day the prior day which can increase water retention.
What she had was the perfect recipe for a jump up in body weight.
She knew that she hadn’t gone nuts and eaten several thousand calories over her goal for the day and gained a bunch of fat so she stepped on the scale with confidence.
BOOM! 3 pounds more than yesterday morning! OUCH!
Even though she was prepared for the big lie it still hurt like a gut punch.
She didn’t panic though.
She just carried on with her Saturday, and her Sunday, and her Monday…
And those 3 pounds of extra water weight and undigested food went away.
She didn’t let it discourage her or spiral into a series of muffins, pizza, and caramel frappucinos.
She just kept on being consistent, making progress and ignoring the occasional lies.
She kept on winning.
The End.
