6 Months Full Time

Today marks exactly 6 months since we packed up everything we own and moved into our Airstream to live and work full-time on the road.

I’ll be honest—what we pictured before we pulled out of our driveway looks very different from what’s actually happened.

And while the whole IG-vs-reality thing hasn’t matched our expectations, we know how lucky we are to even get the chance to try this—whether it lasts 7 months or 7 years.

So… what’s been different?

When we dreamed up this adventure, the plan was simple: travel more, see new corners of the country, host DB meetups, meet some of our amazing clients face-to-face, and work side-by-side with coach Haley for a stretch. We imagined cruising up the East Coast, stopping for a few days in each city, and then moving on.

Reality check: we haven’t traveled all that much.

Why?
Cost, time, keeping up with our fitness, and decision fatigue.

Cost
Short stops are way more expensive than we expected—between nightly RV park rates and the fuel it takes to keep moving, it adds up fast. We tested it on a 4-week road trip through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado, and the numbers were eye-opening.

Sure, free overnight spots (like Walmart parking lots) help… but that’s just not our style. Longer stays (a week or a month) end up saving way more money. While this is how to save money, it’s not what we expected to be doing or envisioned when we left home.

Time
Running a full-time coaching business is quite literally a full-time job.

Driving? Easy—one of us can work from the passenger seat.

Planning? That’s where the hours vanish. Mapping routes, watching the weather, finding RV parks—it’s basically a part-time job on top of our actual jobs. By the time we settle in somewhere, we need to get busy planning the next stop.

Fitness

For the past 15 years, fitness has not only been my job, it’s been a huge part of my life. The past 6 months in the Airstream have been a huge hurdle. We’ve really put a lot of effort into keeping up, but it’s still not been what we expected or what we would consider ‘ideal’. Cons: More “something over nothing” workouts, less steps. Pros: More running.

Decision Fatigue
Our 2025 “plan” was way too vague. We said, “Let’s go to the West Coast… and the East Coast.” That’s not a plan—that’s a compass. And with too many options, it’s easy to just stick with what’s comfortable.

It’s funny, because this is exactly what we help our clients avoid in the gym. We give them a plan so they don’t waste energy deciding what to do. But for the first 6 months of RV life we’ve been like workout newbies wandering around without a program—so we’ve already retreated back to the city where we started several times. We do love the city (and want to move back eventually), but we didn’t envision living in an R.V. park there!

What’s next?
We’re not throwing in the towel. Our priorities are our Digital Barbell clients, our health, and our time.

We’ve picked a specific city out west we absolutely 💙🧡—and where DB first began - and we’re headed there for the fall. We can’t wait.

While we can’t help you plan a road trip quite yet, we CAN help you with a killer workout program that will get you results without feeling worn out or beaten up.

Thank you for following along on our journey and for being an amazing part of the DB community. We couldn’t do any of this without you!
