The One Habit That Saves Your Health
I cleaned it, lubed it, torqued it, adjusted it, and now she’s good to go.
Yesterday, I spent a big chunk of the day knocking out the maintenance checklist on our Airstream.
If you’re new here, about 4 months ago, Blakley and I moved out of our house and into our 27’ Airstream International. You can read more about what we’re up to HERE.

The last thing we want on this new adventure is for something major on the camper to break or stop working.
So once a month, I bust out the owner’s manual, throw on a pair of work gloves, and get to it.
Oiling the steps, checking the tire pressure, and cleaning the air filters isn’t sexy work. It doesn’t give us a better view from our campsite or any kind of instant gratification.
In the moment, it’s like: “Why am I bothering with this? I’d rather be watching the Astros beat the Cubs.”
To buckle down and do the work, I have to look past the immediate moment and remember that what I’m doing pays off in the long run.
This same skill - looking past the immediate moment — is the only reason I’m not still terribly weak and 40 pounds overweight.
I had to learn that even though the workout I’m doing this afternoon won’t make me noticeably more jacked or stronger right after, I still need to go do it.
It’s preventive maintenance with a delayed payoff.
The fact that I feel energized, less anxious, and more confident right after is just a bonus.
I totally get it though… Cake is delicious, and temptation is everywhere all the time.
The great news? You don’t have to stick to your body’s maintenance schedule perfectly to live a strong, capable, confident life.
If you spend your time and money on the maintenance tasks that matter, it’s not overwhelming, and it makes your life so much more enjoyable.
Hope this helps you this week!
Jonathan
