Would You Like Fries or Veggies

Sometimes I don’t feel like working out, or making the healthy food choice in front of me.

I tell you that for three reasons:

#1 – To let you know that if you’re like me and sometimes feel the same way, you’re normal. Well, as normal as I am anyway…

#2 – To remind you that even in those “meh” moments of low motivation, you can still do the right thing.

#3 – There will be times when you don’t do the “right thing,” and that’s okay too.

Exhibit A:

When the waiter asked me last week what side I wanted with my sandwich, I could have said vegetables. But I said fries.

See? It’s normal to lack motivation sometimes.

I think we can all agree—the person who’s always overly excited to eat broccoli is probably faking it.

What really stops you from getting healthier, stronger, fitter, and all the rest isn’t a lack of motivation to do more push-ups.

It’s the decision to wait for more motivation to magically appear… to make what you know you need to do feel easier.

You don’t say you’re not going to work out—you say you’ll work out tomorrow. Then the next day. And the next.

Eventually, the stars align.

You start, even if your motivation tank is nearly empty.

Things get moving. You feel good.

Then—life happens.

You miss a workout or two.

You order the fries instead of the veg.

By your previous definition, you’ve failed.

And since you’ve “ruined” your consistency...

You flip the switch in your mind and go all-in—until the cycle repeats again.

You forget that doing the “wrong thing” sometimes is part of the plan.

I’m rambling a bit, so let me wrap this up by sharing what helps me in low-motivation moments, and how I course-correct after a slip-up:

#1 – I follow a workout program.
Spoiler: it’s our program.
Left to my own devices without a pre-written plan in our app, I’m way more likely to let my daily motivation (or lack thereof) decide whether I train.

Dozens of our clients say the same thing. Remember, you’re normal.

#2 – I don’t miss twice.
What does that mean? If I order the fries at lunch, I eat the veggies at dinner.
I refuse to beat myself up over a misstep or fall victim to the all-or-nothing trap.

Honestly, the majority of our 1:1 nutrition coaching ends up helping people break free from that brutal mindset. Yes, freedom exists.

So, this week, I have a feeling there will be days you don’t want to work out. You might even have a half-decent excuse ready.

Catch yourself. Remind yourself you still can—even if it’s not 100%.

There will be days when you give in to temptation and eat something just because you want to. That’s normal too.

Don’t let perfectionism be your form of self-sabotage.

Don’t miss twice.
